The real question, though, still has to be whether Damon and Renner will ever end up sharing the same screen in one of these films. Still, as long as Greengrass is still happy to step in and put together some sublime, real world-based action sequences, there is at least a fun level of spectacle to look forward to, should Bourne 6 come together. The best thing another Bourne film could do is mix things up a bit. While the series has stepped far away from the original Robert Ludlum novels at this point, but establishing a new character played by Alicia Vikander and keeping some openings in mind for Bourne, could allow for future development. Meanwhile, Jason Bourne made $415 million on a $120 million budget, which is not bad at all and certainly finds Universal Studios in a position to keep things going with Damon - should he and Greengrass remain interested. That film also received a mixed reaction from critics and performed relatively low for a Bourne film at the box office. Marshall is very blunt about thoughts on Bourne Legacy's future, which is fitting.

A somewhat mixed critical reception aside, the film was a box office success that managed to tell a story that caught audiences up with where Bourne is now. Given their recent success ( The Martian, Captain Phillips), they weren't pleading to get back in anyone's good graces, but instead continuing to develop a character they enjoy.
